summer English reading
June 1, 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The 2017-2018 academic year will end on Friday, June 8, 2018. We leave behind another successful and fulfilling school year and look forward to a fun and exciting summer. Amongst all the activities you have planned for your child this summer, there is no better activity than to engage in reading. Daily reading will help your child practice the many skills and strategies he/she has learned throughout the school year.
Creating life-long readers is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. Establishing this habit early and nurturing it throughout their school years is critical to student performance and success in life. We want students to pursue reading for enjoyment and encourage it through a wide selection of quality books.
During the summer, we encourage our students to read as many age-appropriate books as they can. Below you will find this year’s summer reading enrichment assignment.
1. Encourage your child to read at least 15‐30 minutes every day or a minimum of 4‐5 books during summer break.
2. Students should read age-appropriate books. For your convenience, we have included a suggested reading list per grade level. Motivate them to read anything at their reading level that interests them, whether it is comics, magazines, graphic novels, recipes, etc.
3. After completing each book, keep track of your child’s reading with a reading log. Please make sure your child fills out the attached reading log.
4. Take your child to the public library to check out books. Let your child participate in summer reading programs and other activities.
5. Reading logs should be submitted to their new English teacher by Monday, August 27, 2018.
As always, we also encourage each student to read books in Armenian.
Treasure your reading time with your child(ren).
HAVE A SAFE AND RELAXING SUMMER!
